GREENSBORO, N.C. - Winter weather postponed a gala Saturday in honor of the opening of the International Civil Rights Museum Saturday, but crews are working around the clock to make sure streets and sidewalks are clear for the museum's grand opening Monday.

More than 2,200 were expected to attend Saturday's gala, which was rescheduled to Feb. 13. But at least that money people are expected in downtown Greensboro for the opening of the International Civil Rights Museum on Feb. 1.

The City of Greensboro is are bringing in trucks to transport the snow out of downtown so roads are clear for the expected crowds, but the frigid temperatures are challenging the operation.

"The temperatures really kind of hurt us. Anytime you get down below freezing it's really hard to get the ice to start melting." said Street Maintenance Supervisor Dwight Murphy.

Murphy says the city has hired additional crews to clear the streets by Monday.

"What we're going to do is load up all the snow we can and salt the streets and sidewalks. We should be in good shape." Murphy said.

Crews working downtown say it will take at least four hours to clear the streets, but they plan to work around the clock.
