GREENSBORO, N.C. -
Hotels in the vicinity of the International Civil Rights Museum are offering special rates for the its grand opening Feb. 1 and will donate a portion of their profits to the museum.
On Wednesday, rooms remained available at the Proximity, O'Henry, Sheraton, Marriott and Doubletree for the days surrounding the opening, which takes place on a Monday morning. Rooms at the Proximity and O'Henry are going for between $150 and $160 a night, and a portion of that money will be donated to the museum.
Henry Fourrier, the president of the Greensboro Visitors Burea, said he expects between 300,000 and 400,000 people to visit the museum annually, providing a boost in potential customers for area hotels and motels.
"I think the press that we're going to get on this new facility is going to be phenomenal," he said Wednesday.
Nino Jaiimo, the general manager at the Proximity, said he anticipates the grand opening will put Greensboro on the map and will provide a boost to his industry's bottom line.
"I always recommend to our guests: make sure they get a spot for this momentous occasion," he said.
